Packaging:
HYPER-ACTIVETM”
PACKAGING
BACKS A SENSATION
For
Colgate-Palmolive, the SENSATION
is a line of tooth brushes packed in an unique, attention getting,
highly visible blister card that makes it really standout on the shelf.
This is exactly what the company wanted for differentiating this
product from other manufacturers competing for customers in the same
retail display areas.
The
packaging uses the latest technique in material innovation to produce a
blister card stock that detracts light for attention and visibility.
The “Hyper-ActiveTM”
stock when printed with a combination of transparent and opaque color
graphics produces a dramatic effect.
Lithographic Industries, a pioneer in blister card manufacturing
and Holo-Source Corporation, a holographic packaging materials
manufacturer, collaborated to produce this new approach to blister
packaging.
For
this particular project, Holo-Source ran a custom “Hyper-ActiveTM”
pattern micro-embossed 60" wide on a specially coated 40# paper
which was subsequently metallized by Proma Technologies.
The paper was then laminated and in-line coated by Holo-Source
and Smurfit Laminations to .021" blister-type paperboard for
excellent print and blister coating receptivity.
In turn, this roll stock was then precision sheeted to 28" x
40".
For
the printing, Lithographic Industries of Broadview, Illinois, used four
color process printing plus PMS color matches preceded by 2 “hits”
of white for establishing a strong level of opacity in certain of the
solid color areas. Lithographic
Industries CEO, Lou Ebert, said, “We found that the tweaks we
performed to the art work during the pre-press stage allowed the opaque
graphics to blend well with the transparent holographic areas.
The result is an attention getting product package that functions
with a high level of tamper-evidence not seen anywhere else with
laminated blister cards. Additionally, because we are using an
environmentally friendly construction there is a general universal
acceptance in the many countries where the Colgate Sensation product
line is sold.”
Speaking
on behalf of Holo-Source, Rob Levy, Executive Vice-President
commented. “We were able to use our over 10 years experience in
wide-web laminating and converting of holography to recommend the most
suitable converting approach. From
holographic pattern mastering through the manufacturing of laminated
sheets, we produced uniquely engineered, cost effective, easy to convert
materials.”
“We
have found that our Hyper-Active holographic materials can help our
clients’ products stand out among a sea of competitors,” observes
Lee Lacey, CEO of Holo-Source. “Today, even well known brands have to
fight for differentiation, recognition and buyer impulse in the retail
environment, and a more attention getting holographic element in a
package may be all it takes to improve market share.”
